Why is it okay for teenagers in America to have sexual relationships before even marriage ?

Because they all know there is no sex after marriage. lolWhy is it okay for teenagers in America to have sexual relationships before even marriage ?
LOL no its not okay but im sure that its not just happening in america ,its happening in your own back yard too and if you think it isnt youre sadly mistaken!!!!

no its not ok but they do it so the only thing we can do is to make sure they are doing it safely.....Why is it okay for teenagers in America to have sexual relationships before even marriage ?
i, as a teen know what its liike to have sex. but its also when we find people we are really in love with, at least me anyways. at first i was scared but i really love this guy and i just wanted to show him that. i would never have sex with him if i didn't feel like he was the one for me
ok? It depends on the individual and how they were raised...believe it or not some people still wait...It has just been socialized in us to think it is ok to do anythign we want...that is why we are a mess! We run with our freedom...and we end up having abortions, doing drugs and having sex with anything with two legs..not every American though...
I don't think it's only in America. Teenagers pretty much all over the western world tend to be sexually active. It's when their hormones kick in so I suppose that's why....

Is the influx of trendy teenagers that watched loose change undermining the REAL evidence of a coverup?

just because you regurgitate something you saw on the internet doesn't mean you have a real understanding of the situation...Is the influx of trendy teenagers that watched loose change undermining the REAL evidence of a coverup?
You make no sense. Do you need help? Are you in pain knowing that you did not study in school and here you are a young adult and you are embarrasing yourself. If I can help you please call.Is the influx of trendy teenagers that watched loose change undermining the REAL evidence of a coverup?
There are millions (at least) of web sites. Most are garbage. Even a total understanding of the content of a web site is no guarantee of understanding an issue.

What do you think about celebs being unsuitable role models for teenagers?

Obviously, teens should be looking first to their parents, teachers, church leaders or other positive adults that they have frequent real-person contact with for a role model.

That being said, celebrities do have a certain responsibility, whether they want it or not, to conduct themselves as if the world is watching. They are human like everyone else, so they do make mistakes, but they should be accountable and take responsibility for those mistakes. I also think paparazzi should be outlawed because it puts too much pressure and infringes on these people's personal space. What do you think about celebs being unsuitable role models for teenagers?
Try looking up to young celebrities who carry themselves well. Kate Bosworth, Emmy Rossum, Alexis Bledel, Danielle Panabaker, just to name a few.

What do you think about celebs being unsuitable role models for teenagers?
They are not role models, but our children to certainly look up to them, their money, their lifestyle. My daughter loves Fergi from Black Eyed Peas and I cannot stand it! Of course Madonna was my role model so I can't very well say much now can I? The athletes are just as bad. If I had my way my children would have role models like Susan B. Anthony who was one of the strongest advocates of Women's rights in the mid-19th century, and is a representative figure of this politically oriented types of feminists politics. In1872 she was arrested after casting an 'illegal' vote in the presidential election. She was fined $100 but refused to pay.
Well, they have hardly been trained have they ? And some of them do make a complete hash of their lives with drugs, booze and dodgy relationships.
It's as artifical as there locks of hair and there plastic bodies. They don't give a #$%^ about the youth, there paid to do those commercials. Do you ever see some big foot-ball guy at your libray reading to kids? No!
Celebs are here to entertain us not teach us morals! that job belongs to parents, teachers etc. I have never encouraged my kids to use celebrities as role models however I do point out good deeds by anyone celeb or not.
I think they are horrible role models! Unfaithfulness, children out of wedlock, eating disorders, so much emphasis on money. It's very very ugly.
they are only role models for their own children not ours...they can only teach you how to be celebs
Celebrities generally have a lifestyle that is unrealistic for ordinary people to judge themselves by. Also, the body image is totally different, in most cases. Our young girls are already making themselves sick by trying to emulate stick thin celebs.
It's not their responsibility to be role models for anyone, except their own children, just as it's any parents' responsibility to be role models.
I think that they are a HORRIBLE role model. They are the ones that have the eating disorders that gets the younger kids that look up to them into them. They are killing America if you think about it.
I dont think theres anything wrong, Im a model.
Many of them are excellent NEGATIVE role models.

Since long before my daughter was old enough to understand, I have been telling her that she is her own person.

Now she says,';Dad, if Susie wants to paint her rear end purple, that doesn't mean that it would be a good idea for me.';

She is a model daughter, I love her and am proud of her.
Actors act

Singers sing

Dancers dance

Athletes compete in sports

What about those skills makes them qualified to be role models?

Being wealthy and notorious doesn't meet my standard for being a role model. Celebs get attention, in my opinion that is greatly unearned.

Tom Cruise is not qualified to give psychiatric advice, he is qualified to act in movies.

Madonna is not qualified to be spiritual leader, she is a somewhat talented singer qualified for stage performances.

Barbara Streisand is not qualified to be a legal or political commentator yet she chose her concert as a venue to do so.

Why would you allow teenagers to look to these people and others like them for leadership? Teenagers should first look to their parents and second to the adults in authority in their lives (teachers, coaches, Church leaders, Scout Leaders, etc.) for guidance on how to live and what kind of person to be. It is the responsibility of the parents to set the example for the children. If that is done properly, they wont need to look to celebs.

I need some gift ideas. Got any suggestions for buying for teenagers?

This Christmas I have to buy gifts for 3 teenage cousins, 2 girls who will be 13 and a 14 year old boy. I'm at a complete loss as to what to buy. I would like to keep the gifts under $20....yes I am cheap.

So any ideas?I need some gift ideas. Got any suggestions for buying for teenagers?
gift cards or money is always the best route for teenagers- they like ot buy what they want and it's an excuse to hang with friends while spending it- the mall wouldn't be a bad gift card to get since there are so many stores they can choose from then to spend it at.

I am making my niece and nephews a movie night/snack pack (they are pre-teens though) I will have either a Blockbuster gift card in there or an inexpensive fun movie along with a bunch of candy, chips, popcorn, and some sodas so they can have a fun movie or game night with friends.I need some gift ideas. Got any suggestions for buying for teenagers?
The girls, you could get them perfume or makeup. I like Avon perfumes, they smell really good and they are cheap, sometimes they have specials, 2 perfumes for $12.00, etc. Here's the website:

http://shop.avon.com/shop/product_list.a鈥?/a>

(Here's some good scents that are inexpensive: Tahitian Holiday $7.99, Wish of Happiness, Peace or Love $7.99. The other ones on the specials are either really gross smelling or they are over $20. Fire Me Up, Make me Smile, and Make Me Wonder are good, I have all of those. They are $16.00 each.)

Also, I love e.l.f. makeup. It's like..$1 each, except the mineral makeup is $5 each. Sounds cheap, but it's actually really good make up and I love it. Here's their website:

http://www.eyeslipsface.com/

For the boy, you could get him an ITunes card, my brother in law loved that last year (he's 15). Or maybe a gift card to like Best Buy or Game Stop (game stop is probably the best one, if you have one where you live). If he has xbox or wii, you could buy him points so he could get games.
It gets expensive..the best thing my kids love are gift cards!!!

they love blockbuster ones, walmart, ipod itunes, xbox ,wii points.,movies..target is also great..these they get so excited about!!

plus i love them for gifts because postage isnt an arm and leg!!!we live far away from family it gets to be too much to mail everyone presents.
For the girls you can get them like a shirt from there favorite store or a pretty necklace or bracelet. For the boy I say a giftcard to itunes or just cold hard cash!
20 per kid aint goin to get nothing

might as well put it a card for them and let them do what they want
iTunes gift card

Old Navy sweatshirt

baseball hat

makeup

My 13 y/o niece is getting cds and dvds. And a clothing store gift card (at her request).
They want cash. If not, then a gift card to some place like Target where they can get a CD or a game.
Get them cds or dvds if you know their music and movies
ITUNES GIFT CARDS!!! I agree with the others, best idea on here.
A card with $20 in it.
gift cards from there favorite store
What about an Itunes gift card?

Why are so many teenagers pregnant?

i thought being sexually active at 13 was nasty and then i found out that theres girls that are 14 or even 13 and theyre doing that stuff.

it just grosses me out, im 13 and i dont think im gonna be having sex for a long time. i mean arent u supposed to wait until youre married? Why are so many teenagers pregnant?
    Self esteem.

Honestly, that's all it is. Girls are having sex, volunatrily, at such a young age because they think it will make them popular and seem grown up and worldly and ';tough';.

In fact, it's a very dumb thing to do. Having sex (and engaging in other types of sexual activity) when you are so young exposes you to a lot of things that that a young mind and body just aren't ready to cope with. Very young girls are also largely quite unaware about contraception and how their bodies work, so they get pregnant simply because of ignorance.

For a start you risk pregnancy, STD's, and HIV.

Secondly, you risk a lot of emotional trauma.

Thirdly, you risk the social stigma of being well known for all the wrong reasons - girls may think that the boys will like them if they put it out there but there is no respect to be gained from doing that, not from the boys they do it with, and not from their female peers either.

There is nothing more off putting than a young girl of 13 trying to act like she is 25, knowing all about sex, knowing all about the world, wearing revealing clothes and make up. It doesn't look clever or impressive. Why are so many teenagers pregnant?
You're supposed to have safe sex, and most parents think that if they talk to their kids about being safe, that they are encouraging it, so they just don't talk about it.

Personally I think it's wrong to have sex at 13 or 14, but it happens and no one is teaching kids to have safe sex, only ';don't do it'; which obviously isn't working.
    Not everyone waits until marriage.

But teens get pregnant because they don't know the meaning of protection and BC.

Basically, I'd say that they're dumb.

I'm a teenager myself but I know how to keep myself safe from STDs and pregnancy.

I think it's so selfish for teens to have kids, their parents take care of the baby for them. The daddy doesn't usually stick around, and they just pawn the baby off on their parents when they wanna go party and have sex with other guys. Awesome! What kind of life is that for a child? ICKICKICK.
not everybody has the same beliefs as you do hun. it's their own personal decision, doesn't make them a bad person.. they're just making stupid choices. sure, they shouldn't be having sex but some people probably weren't raised the way you most likely were.. maybe they're parents didn't talk to them about it and the consequences. Or.... maybe there are just some really horny kids.
    You say that now. But your 13 you haven't been completely exposed YET. As you get older there will be some guy that you fall for. But then you wont have to ask why young girls are having sex then you can ask yourself ';why in god's name did I do that?';

Everybody is different, so why must we judge? I hope one day we can learn to live and let live. America = freedom, and someday i hope freedom of judgement. Until then i have to be submitted to irrashional judgements from people like you..... Sigh
If you think that it's nasty then keep your legs closed. But no one asked for your opinion. I do think that sex at 13 and 14 is pretty gross though.
Yeh, but kids are stupid and parents dont spend enough time in there kids lives

Is coffee bad for teenagers to drink?

yes it stunts your growth i saw it on Clueless. Is coffee bad for teenagers to drink?
NO... nothing is bad in moderation,,,,, just be a little less vistor to starbucks. Is coffee bad for teenagers to drink?
coffee is never bad for anyone, any age

coffee is only bad when u drink too much a day n get addicted :)
My Grandad used to tell me it would turn your toes black. I don't drink it to this day and I'm 68
I smoke since i was 15 and i drink coffee since 17......... now i'm 21.......... and i don't feel there is anything wrong with me. Coffee is a ';cheater'; to the imunitary system. When you're sleepy, it tells your organism that you are awake and fit. It helps concentration also :) ......... I dunno......... the idea is that i didn't see too much coffee drinkers that don't smoke.......... Smoking i dont recommend.... but coffee........ aaahh it's ok :)
not only teenagers almost everybody becomes addicted to it.
Coffee contains caffeine, a drug that can cause problems with your adrenal glands and system. It causes anxiousness and can lead to lack of concentration and serious sleep problems. Although it is widely used and recommended to '; get the job done.'; I as a coffee drinker know this, however you can get by just as good without it.

There are Canadian teenagers?!??! I have been in the dark for so long.Does the media present an accurate, fair picture of Canadian teenagers?
    Of course it doesn't.

The media only reports on what is news worthy. So the really bad apples or the really gifted make the news. The remaining 98% are ignored.
I think the media presents alot more material now then they used to and much of it is very realistic. They go into the streets and interview individuals and allow viewers to get a true snap shot of life as a teen on the street. The media give teenagers more opportunities to express themselves freely -they ask them questions and give them the chance to speak up. The highschools have their own papers and some even have radio stations..so I think there again are more opportunities for teens to present themselves as they are. Be true to yourself, and show us who you really are..we are listening . Kids are our future you know.

    Daily nutritional requirements for teenagers?

can you give me some information on ';daily nutritional requirements for teenagers'; its a cooking assignment

so far all ive put is that teenagers need a variety of healthy foods containing wheat, protein, calcium and vitamins.

and the need to include foods from the 5 food groups

anything else?Daily nutritional requirements for teenagers?
It depends on which food pyramid they are working from? The old chart or the new one??

Basic Teen requirements are as follows:

    ========================

Calories- females require 2200 Cal./day and males 2500-3000.

Protein- females 0.8g/kg./d males 1.0g/kg./d (30% of caloric intake) Mody teens meet or exceed this level, including vegetarians.

Fats- 30% of daily calories. Most adolescents get enough fats through fast foods and fried foods. Teenagers should be taught to read labels and learn about fat content of foods.

Calcium- The majority of bone mass deposition occurs during adolescence. Daily requirement 1500 mg./day. Good sources include calcium enriched orange juice, green leafy vegetables, sardines, soymilk, and tofu. Antacid tablets contain 300 mg of calcium are good dietary supplements.

Iron- requirements are high during adolescence because of growth. Requirement higher in menstruating females. Good sources include meats, green vegetable, cereals fortified with iron, fish, poultry, eggs, and nuts.

Zinc- 12-15 mgs./day. Found in meats, eggs, seafood, and dairy products

Fiber-20-25 grams/day. Found in fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, and cereals.

Vitamins-most commonly adolescents are deficient A, B6 ,E. D, C, and folic acid. Usually adolescents who are eating normal daily requirements of nutrients, their diets were not deficient in vitamins. If not getting daily requirements, should get vitamin supplements.

  • Why are teenagers obsessed with teenager-slashing horror flicks?

Nightmare on Elm Street. Friday the 13th. And all the other teen-slash flicks that have come out since then. Why does it seem like teens are obsessed with other teens dying? I'm 26 and never was into that sort of thing; I find it ridiculous and downright stupid. So if anyone can explain the psychological goings-on on this-please explain it to me! :)Why are teenagers obsessed with teenager-slashing horror flicks?
Youngsters have always taken an interest in such things. I expect that it is part of learning about the world of adults and how to respond to various situations, even the most extreme and unlikely. I think it's emotionally healthy in moderation and if they grow out of the phase. But of course it doesn't interest everybody. Some are content not to know. Why are teenagers obsessed with teenager-slashing horror flicks?
Some people just like the thrill of not knowing what's going to happen. It's kind of like a rollercoaster ride.
i'm 38, and i was obsessed with the slasher flicks, because back in the '80's i was made to believe it could happen to me. i knew it was just a movie, but i would never go camping near a haunted lake, nor would i venture into a forest filled with fog. but it was a movie, and it was fun.... at the time. now you have movies like ';saw'; and ';the descent'; which feature 22-30 year olds in horrific scanarios . even beyond that there are movies like ';elephant'; that pit high school students killing other students. scary has evolved.
Yeah, I'm 23 and can't explain it either. I think it's part of the dumbing down of America, personally... More blood! Yeah! See what I mean?
Teenagers like a good scare. Something to raise the adrenaline levels and horror movies provide that. But I know a few teens who don't like horror, so its not unusual.

I'm one of the teenagers who loves horror.
Sex. Violence. Blood. Gore. Flesh. Swearing. Nude teens. What's not to love?

What makes you think there's an obsession? All I see are a relative few movies with a common theme. I'm sure there are some people who really, really like them, but watching a more banally appealing movie isn't an obsession, nor is it a sign of a ';dumbing down of America';. Furthermore, what makes you think it's the ';other teens dying'; part that's the focus of attention? It seems you've made some false presumptions.

Some people like to be frightened. You don't. It's neither complicated nor a big deal.
    jesus christ!

normally i'm not a big horror movie fan but come on,

    those movies are CLASSIC.

why are you complaining about those movies 20 years later they were out? there's nothing psychologically wrong with moives....obviously adults write the scripts...cause they do prefer people who graduated from college and whatnot...

are you trying to say you just don't think any kind of movie

is not ridiculous and downright ';stupid';?

    cause lets see....we have sci-fi/thriller movies...we have drama/comedy movies...drama/thriller/horror movies...romantic comedy movies.

most of people like those movies regardless of if they are teens or not. i like die hard movies....i'm a teenager and the main character is an adult! it doesn't make sense how you relate one specific kind of classic horor movies with one specific group of people.

rob zombie made friday the 13th stupid...you can't re-make a masterpeice...he's seriously creepier than marilyn manson.

you're 26...stop acting like youre a 90 year old complaining about todays youth. most teens don't like classics, unfortunately. they aren't obsessed with it. take it from me, cause i am a teen.

Is it a good idea for schools to avoid teaching teenagers about condoms?

Or do we have it right by expecting schools to teach abstinence only? Thank you for your opinions. Is it a good idea for schools to avoid teaching teenagers about condoms?
Our president's abstinence only policies are a complete failure. Is it a good idea for schools to avoid teaching teenagers about condoms?
Abstinence only programs have been a complete disaster.
Teaching abstinence only leads to STDs and babies.
I think schools should, as per their mission, teach ';facts';. Which means telling them about abstinence, about condoms, and even about unprotected sex. And the sliding scale of protection should be explained for each choice.
teaching abstinece only is just silly

it isnt going to happen ... plain and simple

so they NEED taught about safe sex
Yes, it is a very good idea. Teaching teenagers about condoms, and especially giving out free condoms, will only teach teenagers that it's okay to have sex with whoever, as long as you have a condom handy. Did these people ever think it might be a good idea to wait until AFTER marriage to have sex? People throw away the gift of sex and treat it like garbage, saving nothing for later. We need to teach high schoolers abstinence.
It's a good idea only if you want more teenage pregnancies.
Teach them about condoms and show them pics of other sexual diseases like they did when I was in school. We learned it in Elementary in 6th grade and thats age 11.
They should encourage condoms since some teens won't try abstinence. But let them know that condoms are not always effective.
No way. Kids need to know that without one you will get pregnant. Teen pregancies and abortions are both bad things to happen to a young girl. Most parents avoid talking about such awkward topics. They need to be taught in school how to be safe because they are going to have sex. There are actually girls out there in their teens who don't know where babies come from.
Information and Education are never wrong to teach.

Give people all the information and let them make decisions based on their own conscience.

If you do not believe in using condoms tell your kids why you don't....if you don't approve of pre-marital sex tell your kids why....TEACH your kids your beliefs..but don't leave them in ignorance because you are afraid that they won't listen to you. You child will make their own choice concerning pre-marital sex, either they will agree with you and wait..or they will convince themselves that somehow they are in love and they are going to get married anyway someday so it is okay..or they may just decide that what is right for you regarding premarital sex is not right for them ...

by only teaching abstinence, then you are saying they deserve to die for having pre-marital sex. (Yes Yes I know condoms do not protect 100%...but they sure protect better then nothing at all). And yes I do think it is that black and white. Teaching abstinence is best is one thing..but withholding information that can save your childs life is another thing entirely.

As for why should sex ed be taught in school? Sex is a part of life and should be taught about in science classes. Why teach about condoms, birth control, etc? because they are a part of health..and should be convered in health class.

The morality of sex is what should be taught by the parents as part of parenting...the science and health parts though should be part of the schools job.
NO you don't have it right! ABSTINENCE only creates babies, because hardly anyone waits!!!
If Bill Clinton had been condom-aware he wouldn't have had to splash out on a new dress for Monica!

It's a serious failure of the US education system if even the President can't get it right!
no, schools should teach everything, not make moral judgments based on religious beliefs and impose them on others.
No, not teaching them is a horrible idea.
no. they need to teach that stuff! as early as 7th grade!
Hmm well looking at how many teenagers we see getting pregnant and getting STD's already, i don't think it's wise not to teach about condoms. Because most kids are not religious, and even those who are often think ';well we are in love, so it's cool';.... so western teens will still be having sex whether we teach them about condoms or not, so I think we should.
Yes, like it or not kids are having sex. You can't just say don't and expect them to all listen. I'd rather a kid who was going to say ';screw you, I'll screw who I want'; to have a condom then to be unsafe.

And while I agree with someone above, it is the parents job to do this not the schools. Again, like it or not some parents aren't going to give a kid a condom, they will say don't or else end of discussion.
Teenagers are going to have sex. Expecting teenagers to abstain is like expecting a Christian to not be judgmental. It just ain't gonna happen. If you don't teach them about safe sex practices and birth control, well your going to see exactly what seems to be happening now. teenage pregnancies and teenagers with STD's will happen more and more often. Teaching teenagers how to act responsibly does not mean that you are condoning sex it simply means that yoy are aware of the fact that many are going to do it anyway.
Teaching abstinence only is idiotic. Very few people are going to listen to it. Its much more likely that kids will listen to ';use condoms';. Kids aren't exactly known for logical thinking and they will have sex anyway. This world isn't the perfect little place the religious like to think it is where everyone is perfectly happy doing what they're told like a good little slave.
Telling teenage boys not to do something is only going to make them more curious, and more tempted to do it. I can't even imagine how some do not want the schools teaching kids about protected sex.

Whether you like it or not, teens are GOING to have sex, so you might as well educate them about the importance of condoms and birth control.
Neither. Kids should learn history and math in school. Sex should be taught by parents only, and the parents decide whether to teach birth control or abstinence-only.

Since when was it our schools duty to do our parenting for us?

Do you think that teenagers should be allowed to vote if they can legally work and are taxed?

thinking back that makes sense to meDo you think that teenagers should be allowed to vote if they can legally work and are taxed?
An interesting question. If you recall, one of the reasons for the American colonists revolting against the British was taxation without representation.

However with the general level of understanding and lack of maturity I would say a few years paying your dues (taxes) before being allowed to vote is about right.

Still an interesting question.Do you think that teenagers should be allowed to vote if they can legally work and are taxed?
Some teenagers lack the maturity to make such an important decision as our nation's leaders. NOTE THAT I SAID SOME - NOT ALL! Many would vote on who is the cutest, has the best hair, or something equally childish. Do you want a president in the White House because he has the cutest butt? Come on. There are some 18 year olds out there who wouldn't be allowed to vote if maturity were a factor. But then again, there are some 50 year olds in the same category.
    No. If that ever happens Britney Spears will be the Commander in Chief and she will attack Sudan with a Nuclear Bomb and then Venezuela and she will only declare: ';Oops! I did it again';
18 and older, I say yes.

Why do you think teenagers prefer to have sex?

in the masterbedroom, when cutting, and home alone? Why do you think teenagers prefer to have sex?
It has been a very long time since I was a teenager, but I am assuming teenagers prefer to have sex in the master bedroom while cutting classes and home alone because sex is great, the master bedroom is really comfortable, sex is more fun than school, and it would be really awkward to have sex with your parents around.

That is just my guess. Why do you think teenagers prefer to have sex?
For obvious reasons! Plus our culture has become overly ';sexualized'; with too many movies/shows that are sexual in nature, being targeted toward teens.

The whole cutting yourself thing though, makes no sense to me, anyone doing that needs serious psychotherapy! Unless it has a different meaning that you were intending, like cutting class.

What exactly does this have to do with politics though?
Yowza! Isn't it because its fun and especially human? I remember for me, a lack of money had a lot to do with it. Sex is free!

now go to bed young lady so you have enough energy to get off properly when cutting (school) tomorrow.
The master bedroom would be more comfortable and romantic.

Of course they have more freedom when home alone without parents.

People who cut themselves should seek counseling as this is a form of mental illness.

    3) home alone? thats why they cut, also to be able to have loud sex

she is driving me carzyHow do you control teenagers?
An open dialouge is extremely necessary. She has to trust you, but you can't forget that she is experiencing for the first time the same hormonal changes that you have had years to adjust to. Mood swings, body changes, skin changes and the like are all contributing to her new personality. Be patient, and talk to her often.

We can't expect our teens to just ';get it';. Their personalities are growing and developing. They are questioning everything, and their bodies are in a constant state of flux. SHe will grow out of it.

I remember when my neice became a teenager. My sister was going crazy like you. It wasn't until she was almost an adult when it hit her that it's a very cruel joke to give a girl the body of a woman and all the desires that come with it and emotions of a child. My neice was confused. Should she play with dolls or date? The line between childhood and adolescence is sooo thin. The biological process takes place over six months or so, but the social, physical and emotional processes take years to complete.

Most people believe that it's jsut rebelion (a guaranteed growing pain), but I personally believe that it's a cruel joke on a child that their bodies give them desires and a certain level of independence because they are fully able to do everything an adult can do without the maturity to do it. It takes immense understanding on the part of a parent to give them growing degrees of responsibility and independence. This helped my neice. She and my sister sat down together and drew up a contract around the age of 14. It outlined dating, chores, social activities, grades. They agreed on the rules together. Of course there were some that were not negotiable, but she had a part in the decisions that would mold her future. The battles between them were then few and far between.

I remember once after the contract was signed that my neice at 16 got a ';B-'; in one of her classes (She had never made a ';B'; in her life and had an IQ of 154). Because of the contract, her social activities were reduced to the weekends only until she brought hom 3 ';A's'; from tests in teh class. There was a battle, but she brought her grades up and got over it. In essence, she had a job to do. Her job was to be responsible. If you don't get the work done, you have work overtime.

If you like, please email me regarding the contract. It was quite brilliant. I plan to use the idea myself.

I keep editting, but I just thought of something else after reading other responses. People seem to think that they need to add more and more rules as their children get older. It's understandable with dating and all the other things on their minds, but you have to add more and more freedoms and not assume they know what the rules are until they break them. There should be the absolutes about drinking, drugs and the like, but how they cut their hair and what they wear (as long as it covers from Cleveland to Virginia and isn't the wrong size) is not so important. It might embarass you to have a daughter with a crew cut, but if she is mature about schoolwork and such, does it really matter? At this point, she will develop her own sense of morality because of what you have taught her, but I'll add that if you haven't talked to her about sex, drugs, and appropriate behaviors, she will have a difficult time if she's yelled out understanding your point. How do you control teenagers?
I have a 15 yr old son. He doesn't drink, have sex or use drugs. But he thinks he knows everything and he's angry a lot of the time. And I have no idea what to do except wait it out. I wish I could give you advice. I outgrew the teenage attitude. Probably your daughter will also.

Well,as you probaly already know all teenagers go through this stage.but you have to put your foot down and show them who the parent is.Start grounding her or taking things away.Although it probaly wont work at first but eventually she will get tired of you taking things away and she will hoprfully straighten her self out.But sometimes with teens you have to show them tough love.I have had the same problem but it's kinda calming down.Just be sure that you stick to what you say.

    YOU LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!
give her boundaries, rules (curfew, not cussing, conversing with every other person respectfully, doing good in school, etc.) it's important to punish her right away (punish like grounding her or taking away her phone and other privileges) for not obeying you so that she gets to understand her wrong doing immediately. but you must tell her everytime that it's for her so that she'll become a better person, to be able to set her own values and make her own wise decisions, and also because you love her.
This is the common mistake of parents. You don't just ask how to control them when they already have a mind of their own. You start while they're still young. You give them proper love and affection. You teach them values that hopefully they will carry as they grow into puberty. When they're in this stage, you don't control them. The more you control, the more they want to break free. If there is already a gap between the two of you, you start bridging those gaps by extending your patience and understanding. remember, this is a difficult time for them, figuring out different things for themselves. Don't make things more difficult. What they need now is a friend who can understand, then be a parent and guide. ';Guide and advice'; don't dictate.
u really can't ur gonna have to find a way 2 compromise with her b4 she gets 2 out of hand
Control is the wrong word. You need to say to them that you are a group of adults sharing your lives, how can you all work together so things are fair for you all. Treat them that way, and they'll act the way you want. Most of the time anyway....
You CANNOT control a teenager. You have to make them want to control themselves.

    How do you do this?

By not giving them everything they want. They should earn privelages for proper behavior.
Your Teen has/wants something of great value. When I was unruly my mother threatened to take away my guitar, or my freedom. I would actually get punished, and she would make me go through the whole thing. She's no joke, and I knew it.

Why do kids change when they become teenagers?

    hormones

    maturity

we cant make sense of life because everone is telling us different things we have to do to get through lifeWhy do kids change when they become teenagers?
I think there's a couple of reasons why kids change when they become teens. The first is hormones. Kids typically have a low baseline of hormones until they hit puberty. There just isn't much going on. At puberty, estrogens and androgens fill the blood stream and suddenly kids are paying more attention to their bodies and their bodies are responding in *new* ways. It's the first time they've had to deal with such strong drives and emotions and it can be unnerving.

I think the second reason is based on the growth spurt itself. Not only are the muscles, bones, hair and genitals growing at an accelerated rate (which means the kid has to emotionally adapt to it), but the brain is going through some major changes. There's a big increase in brain cells and ';trimming'; (unused connections die) and since the brain controls thought patterns, emotions and everyday living, it stands to reason that teens will begin to see events, relationships and sensations in a different light as well.

The last to ';stablize'; is the pre-frontal cortex which is responsible for reasoning, judging and higher level cognition (thinking). Thus teens are usually in a state of flux for several years as their bodies (including the brain) expand, contract and finally settle down into an adult pattern (usually in their early 20's).

Hope this helpsWhy do kids change when they become teenagers?
Teenagers are comparable to the terrible two tots. Toddlers aren't quite baby anymore, but not quite big kid either--though they sure try to do everything their way and throw a big stinch when they don't get their way---Teenagers aren't quite adults, but not a small child either and act the same way as the overbearing terrible two tot.

Teenagers want freedom to do want they want when they want, but as parents we still have to set boundaries and hold them accountable when they misbehave.

Fortunately, most teenagers grow out this phase in their early twenties and for some, never.
Because their mind is growing and maturing(most of them.)

Hormones also change their attitude towards things.
Hormones change a person physically and mentally.

    Also, teenagers feel like they have to be more ';adult.';
well breasts tend to do that
Because they start to grow up!
just a little. I still act like a kid though. LOL
    sh!t happens
not all teens do i didn't
Puberty, and apparently they go through the same amount of brain development as toddlers, indicating why both can be badly behaved, and you are growing up.

    :D
    because they are going through a ';Change';
Because they start to mature and go through puberty.
    umm Puberty lol

    No. If that ever happens Britney Spears will be the Commander in Chief and she will attack Sudan with a Nuclear Bomb and then Venezuela and she will only declare: ';Oops! I did it again';
18 and older, I say yes.

Because alcohol is forbidden. We all want what we cannot have. It is how I make my living. Why do Alcohol advertisement's have no impact on teenagers?
When you are a teenager you take whatever alcohol you can get. If your older sibling gives you a case of Coors light you are more then happy to accept. As a teenager you do not have the option to browse around the beer distributor and make a great selection.

It isn't until you reach college that you begin to know the difference between a case of Keystone Light and a case of Rolling Rock.

What should 3 teenagers do on later? Saturday night?

We don't want to see a movie, play a boardgame, or a video game. We live in the st. louis suburbs. We can drive and we are all 17. We don't want to spend very much at all. Please just leave your thoughts. We don't care how stupid the idea is.What should 3 teenagers do on later? Saturday night?

  • I have 2 teenagers and they have very messy bedrooms, Why?

Why? won't they keep them tidy. They have always been very tidy with their rooms. The oldest left home, came back and now her room is so bad you fall over if you attempt to enter.

The youngest saw this and thought I can match that, and today for the first time, I put his washing on his bed not away.

What is the reason for being so messy, and will they ever change?I have 2 teenagers and they have very messy bedrooms, Why?
it's normal.I have 2 teenagers and they have very messy bedrooms, Why?
Make cleaning fun! Put music on, spend some quality time together and give them the odd bit of change u have if they do a good job
CONGRADULATIONS!!!! You hve 2 perfectly normal teens. Here is how I handled it, They didnt like me going into their rooms so I told them, as long as they bring out all the dishes from their room daily, I wouldnt enter or clean their rooms. Worked for us!
For teenagers this is normal and for some older people as well. Some people just don't care that they live in a pig sty. What you need to do is put your foot down and tell them to clean up their act then their room.As long as you're not saying anything about it they are not going to keep it clean.Put a day aside and tell them that you all are going to clean your rooms and get rid of things. The less clutter the less the mess.
my 15yr old son and 13yr old daughter are exactly the same and when i tell them clean there room everything gets hid under the bed so still end up doing it myself, don't worry about it you will probably find most teenagers are same.
Haha! my mom still asks me the same thing and Im not even living with her anymore! My problem is my clothes. I pick out my outfits the day before I go to work, but then i get in different moods when i wake up, therefore i change 50 thousand times, my clothes are all over the floor. make up, hair stuff, bed unmade.... but truthfully when i come home and i walk into my room, my ';own space';, I feel at home. I know where evverything is (even though half of everything is on the floor) and im comfortable with myself enough to have a mess, and be proud that atleast I looked good, made an impression, and successfully got through my day because of that mess. I know it sounds weird but its a comforth thing. (ps... sometimes its pure laziness too) BUT on the ';mom'; side of everything, Do this... you know how you LOVE to get new gadgets and stuff... I bought a swiffer duster and had a freakin' dust party by myself! lol.... get them some organizational stuff... go to ikea.com , there cheap and contemporarily VERY teen friendly... get them something cool like closet organizers, or mesh type holders so they can see whats in them so they wont make so much of a mess! also a swiffer wouldnt hurt either :)
    1. The one you ';allowed'; to return home should be put on notice that he's not in a hotel and should be contributing to the household (if not already).

    2. They both should be held accountable for washing their own clothes and keeping their room clean. It's your house and your rules.

    3. Anything left in another room is fair game for tossing or donation box. It should be a team effort to keep the house clean, but you as a parent should insist.
Yes they do change after they leave home. One out of my 4 was neat....the last one was horrible and 3 years from home, still the same but he has a maid. Close the door and dream of the day that it will be your room.
thats just what teenagers are like, you could always try suspending their allowence until they start listening to you, that might make them want to keep their bedrooms clean......(';,)
Well the reason behind being messy is because they think that don't have enough time to clean there room and hang out with there friends. They will make sure that everything is good and they have a place to hang out and do the things that they want to do. The room is the last thing on there mind. The older one is just getting use to the habit of having a messy room and won't have it for the rest of her life. When she gets a good job and moves out on her own then her room will be always clean. She will feel that is a need to have the full accomplishment of being independent. But her being under your roof she will always think, Well mom will do it. Best advise is to let her do it. That is her room. You can ground the little one and amke them do it. They have to learn the habit somehow. If the older one won't be a role model for them then you have to make sure you so the clean your room and i will take you out for icecream. so that will teach them it is a good thing. Good luck and i'm sorry but it will not change over night but only time and effort.
I'm sorry to tell you that I am thirty and it never changed, and I've had that fight with my parents until the day that I left home. Fortunately my husband is the same way. We aren't dirty we just don't pick up after ourselves around the house (we leave clothes, laundary, mail, newspapers all over the living room). We clean when we have company coming over. I don't know why we are this way, and why I was that way when I was younger. Other priorities?
The reason for it being messy is simple. You let them keep them messy. It's your house, run it the way you want to.

Stress to them the importance of keeping it neat. It's easier to find things, it is safer, it is healthier, and, my favorite, because it's your house and you want it neat!
i know they will change.............when i was 15/16 my room was so bad you couldn't see the floor, as a punishment my dad took the legs off my bed so i couldn't put anything underneath it, then invited my friends round to see this............ embarrassed is not the word! from that day on my room was keep as tidy as an army base..........i'm not saying that you have to do this but keep it in mind lol!!
I'm a teen and I seriously have to jump over junk I have in my room[it's about 25 x 22] lol I like messy
    I'm 30 and I am a messy person.

In life there's already so many restrictions and strains, I need a place where I feel completely free from this.

So whenever my mom would complain about the mess, I just ended up adding more on top.
With teenagers u have to be paitient, especially if they don't clean their room. With teens, we don't really have time to do any cleaning in our rooms. maybe on the weekends if we're grounded, but don't count on it.
I have a son 18 and a daughter 16 my 18 year old is so spotless, where my 16 yr old, her room is in such a mess, i'm embarressed with it lol, she tells me she likes mess..lol, so I give her a few days to clean it up, coz i refuse too, if she dont clean it up, she gets grounded or i dont give her any money, but i have been told , when they leave home they do change , god I hope she does lol.. hope this helps you..Good Luck
ALL TEENAGERS ARE THIS WAY. THEY GET TO THE STAGE WHERE THEY DONT WANT TO DO ANYTHING. IV GOT 2 MYSELF.
because there teens....we have better things to do then make sure are rooms are clean~
